Prior to 2002, Lorain County Community College let their Radio Club play music in the cafeteria on the television sets via a closed-circuit system as a means to hone their skills. In the Spring of 2002, LCCC's Instructional Television Media Services department was generous enough to allow the radio club airtime on WHR-777 (aka the LCCC cable station) from 7:00AM to 8:00AM each morning. Pre-recorded on videotape, the shows would air on the audio channel while a campus bullitan board scrolled on the video side. The radio club was able to expand it's horizons beyond the cafeteria, and garnered a nice following of listeners.
While these were great developments for the club members, they wanted to be part of the radio scene and not just mimic it. The desire now was for the radio club to operate an actual full-time station. After a lot of hard work and dedication, The Duck opened up in April 2004 for everyone to listen to via the internet. The station went on hiatus in November of 2006 until resuming operations in October of 2007, now with state-of-the-art computer equipment. New studios are also forthcoming with the expansion and renovation of LCCC's College Center building in early 2009.
These are our roots at LCCCRadio.com - The Duck and we believe that with our dedication and knowledge of radio we can succeed into the future.
