CRUSHERS CAPTURE 12-INNING MARATHON

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Lake Erie Crushers failed to hold a 6-1 lead, but posted a 7-6 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums in 12 innings on Friday night.

Lake Erie scored in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead when Andrew Davis singled up the middle to score Jodam Rivera. Rivera singled with one out and stole second. Traverse City tied the game in the bottom of the second as Chase Burch lined the first pitch from Travis Risser over the fence in left for his third homer of the season.

The Crushers were able to retake the lead with an unearned run in the top of the third. Dom Duggan posted a one out single and moved to second on an error. He scored as Jodam Rivera reached on an error in the outfield. Travis Vetters led off the fourth with his third homer of the season and Eddie Tisdale followed with his second homer down the line in left as the Crushers went back-to-back for the first time this season. Lake Erie tacked on two more as Dom Duggan singled home Joel Collins and was trapped in a rundown long enough for Arden McWilliams to cross the plate.

The Beach Bums pulled within 6-4 as Bobby Spain connected on his first homer of the season, a three-run shot to right-center in the bottom of the fourth. Traverse City hit the third homer of the game against Lake Erie starter Travis Risser in the bottom of the sixth as Chase Burch tied the score with a two-run homer. Risser threw 5.1 innings in his sixth start, striking out four.

The score did not change until the top of the 12th inning though each team had several chances. Alberto Rolon left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning following a leadoff double, posting two strikeouts to escape. He earned the win after throwing 3.1 scoreless frames. sJodam Rivera led off the 12th with an opposite field single. Andrew Davis followed by driving the first pitch he saw from Scott Mueller into the gap in right-center for a triple, scoring Rivera. J.J. Pacella struck out two in the ninth to record his first save of the season.

Eight members of the lineup recorded a hit as the Crushers totaled 15 in the game. Seven of the eight posted more than one led by Andrew Davis, who finished 3-for-6.

The brief roadswing concludes tomorrow evening with a 7:05 p.m. rubber game. RHP Josh Roberts (2-0, 2.25) starts for the Crushers with RHP Ryan Platt (3-0, 2.13) receiving the nod sfor Traverse City.
